For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...South Carolina Beaches. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Tropical Cyclone Statement issued September 27 at 11:13AM EDT by NWS Charleston SC HLSCHS This product covers southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia **TROPICAL STORM HELENE CONTINUES TO PULL MUCH FURTHER AWAY FROM THE LOCAL AREA** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Allendale, Beaufort, Charleston, Coastal Colleton, Coastal Jasper, Dorchester, Hampton, Inland Berkeley, Inland Colleton, Inland Jasper, and Tidal Berkeley * STORM INFORMATION: - About 270 miles northwest of Charleston SC or about 260 miles northwest of Savannah GA - 35.1N 83.8W - Storm Intensity 45 mph - Movement North or 350 degrees at 32 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ As of 11 AM, Tropical Storm Helene was located to the southwest of Asheville, North Carolina. Tropical storm force winds will continue across southeast South Carolina, the adjacent coastal waters, and the Georgia coastal waters into early this afternoon. Frequent gusts of 40 or 45 mph are expected to continue, but will gradually decrease through the afternoon as the center of Helene begins to curve northwest and move even further away from the forecast area. Across southeast Georgia the Tropical Storm Warning has ended. However, winds will remain gusty. The risk for tornadoes and heavy rain have ended, as the last rainband associated with Helene moves to the north. However, minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas are still possible due to previous rains. Area creeks and rivers will continue to rise even though rains have ended. The risk for coastal flooding has likely come to an end. Meanwhile, high surf, strong and dangerous rip currents, and beach erosion are likely at all area beaches through today. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Potential impacts from the main wind event are now unfolding across southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia. Remain well sheltered from hazardous wind having possible limited impacts. If realized, these impacts include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. - Some roads impassable due to debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded locations. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways, especially for high profile vehicles. - Isolated to scattered power and communications outages. * SURGE: Little to no additional impacts are anticipated at this time across southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia. * FLOODING RAIN: Little to no additional impacts are anticipated at this time across southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia. * TORNADOES: Potential impacts from tornadic waterspouts are still unfolding across the far Charleston County waters. Remain well braced against a waterspout event having possible limited impacts. If realized, these impacts include: - In isolated locations, waterspouts could damage boats. Elsewhere across southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia, little to no impact is anticipated.
